General Post Description

People in Need’s programs for war-affected Syrian population focus mainly on livelihood/food security, rural rehabilitation and emergency education. PIN operates several programs across North Western Syria (Idlib, Aleppo) with its offices and field staff in Syria. Cross-border operations are managed from Turkey where PIN’s main office is established serving as administrative and logistics support of programs implemented directly or through partners in Syria.

The main responsibility of the Non-Formal Education Field Coordinator (hereon in referred to as ‘The Coordinator’) is the oversight of all self-learning education activities to be implemented in tented learning centers. The Coordinator will work closely with partners to ensure the quality and progress of PIN’s self-learning activities. The Coordinator will also act as the focal point for communication between PIN’s Gaziantep Office in Turkey and PIN’s activities in the field. To fulfill these responsibilities, The Coordinator will report directly to the Education Project Manager.

Functional and hierarchical reporting lines

The Non-Formal Education Field Coordinator will directly report to the Education Project Manager in Turkey and is under the overall supervision of the Education Programme Manager The country programme is managed by a Country Director, responsible for all mission projects and related activities.

Principal responsibilities AND TASKS:

Programme Implementation:

·         Responsible for assisting in the implementation of all PIN activities related to the non-formal education/self-learning project in the field. This includes all phases of the project cycle, from planning project activities, monitoring progress as well as timely achievement of the project’s milestones and reporting on project results.

·         Lead on coordination efforts between PIN and the relevant education/camp management authorities inside Syria and Gaziantep, as relevant.

·         Work closely with the Education Project Manager, Education in Emergencies (EiE) Advisor, and Education Programme Assistant to ensure appropriate and strategic planning of non-formal education activities.

·         Ensure that education activities are in line with PIN’s Syria Mission strategy, internal guidelines, PIN’s Education Strategy as well as any donor guidelines, procedures and requirements.

·         Remain knowledgeable of developments in the Education sector in the field, particularly any contextual changes, assessments/report and any major or nuanced shifts within the strategies or approaches of education authorities in Syria.

·         Coordinate the development of assessments, including the development of related tools and data analysis, related to non-formal education activities in cooperation with PIN EiE Advisor and Education Project Manager.

·         Supervise field teams to ensure progress against plans, timely reporting of outputs, challenges, liaison with local partners and communities. Ensure that main programmatic decisions and plans related to the SLP are being communicated to the field teams in a timely manner.

Human Resource Management:

·         Provide day-to-day support, coordination and mentoring to field teams in relation to coordination and capacity building activities.

·         Manage the education and PSS assistant(s) based in Syria who are responsible for coordination and capacity building activities – allocate tasks, monitor the completion, mentor and support their development (relevant skills and knowledge).

·         Support the recruitment of new education staff through contribution to the development of TORs, testing and interviewing of candidates.


·         Other tasks assigned by the Education Project Manager corresponding to actual needs of the mission, programs, and projects.

·         Substitute relevant colleagues (fully or partially) during their absence when assigned by employee’s Line Manager.

·         Understand and adhere to the mission’s National Staff Handbook, PIN Code of Conduct, PIN Key Policies and relevant guidelines.


  • University Degree in social work, psychology or related human services field, required.
  • 1 to 2 year’s Education Coordinator Experience.
  • Experience developing individual service plans.
  • Experience working with out-of-school youth or IDP children and youth
  • Must successfully pass background check.
  • Fluency in English is desirable
